The Haggerston Parent Pledge
A shared commitment between families and the school
At Haggerston, we believe that when families and schools work together in partnership, students thrive. The Haggerston Parent Pledge sets out the practical ways parents and carers can support their child’s success and uphold the school’s values of Aspiration, Creativity and Character. It complements the school’s commitment to provide a safe, inclusive, and academically rigorous environment where every child is known and supported.
ASPIRATION
We believe every child has the right to aim high and achieve their potential.
As a parent/carer, I pledge to:
- Encourage my child to take pride in their learning and give their best effort.
- Ensure strong attendance and punctuality, and support full participation in school life.
- Use the DPR (Dynamic Progress Reporting) system to stay informed about progress and deadlines.
- Support my child in developing consistent routines for homework and revision.

- My child arrives on time, in the correct uniform, and ready to learn each day.
- I attend parent events, including progress evenings, workshops, and information sessions.
- I communicate proactively with the school if my child is struggling or needs support.
- I praise and show interest in my child’s academic progress, including test results and effort.
CREATIVITY
We believe that creativity comes from mastering knowledge and thinking flexibly.
As a parent/carer, I pledge to:
- Support my child in building deep knowledge across subjects through reading, recall, discussion, and curiosity.
- Encourage them to think critically and make connections across subjects.
- Value effort and persistence—not just ‘natural talent’—in both creative and academic work.
- Help minimise distractions and promote independent thought.
Observable features:
- My child reads regularly and talks about ideas, topics, or texts beyond lessons.
- I support them to complete homework thoroughly and attend subject clinics or enrichment.
- I talk positively about learning as a process and celebrate intellectual growth.
SCHOOL’S COMMITMENT TO PARENTS AND CARERS
We will:
- Provide a well-sequenced, knowledge-rich curriculum and high-quality teaching.
- Uphold high expectations for behaviour, attendance, and academic effort.
- Communicate clearly and respectfully about your child’s progress and any concerns.
- Offer opportunities for parental engagement and feedback.
- Create a safe and inclusive environment in which all students can learn and thrive.

As a parent/carer, I pledge to:
-
Reinforce high standards of behaviour and personal responsibility at home.

I discuss the impact of social media and support the school’s no-phone policy during the school day.
-
I encourage my child to be polite, tolerant, and respectful in all interactions.
